[edit] In response to Mark Braunias

May 2008 When Room 1 returned to school they created a collection of art which is on their class wall. They have also created an amazing mural in a hall foyer which starts at floor level and goes all the way up to the ceiling.

Part of Mark Braunias's style is to put boxes around things. We looked quite closely at pamphlets of his work and some of these have got a coloured box around them. He also makes use of those random speech bubble shapes. So, we started putting all sorts of shapes in to fill in gaps so there would be an even amount and it would not all be partitioned off. That way you couldn't tell where one student's work finished and another begins. The students also ended up finishing off each others work.

They had to come up with an idea that was relevant. We thought back to Mark Braunias reflecting on his childhood wind-up toys and things like that from the 1960's. We also looked at games and flying kites as well as serious things. Taking everyday things around us and turning it into art. The space was done over a period of 6 - 8 weeks. It's not perfect but that is part of the process and this is reflected by the fact that they are happy to leave it there.
